I'm Belinda Nailon, a ceramic artist working in St Kilda, Melbourne. My pottery ranges from minimalist designs emphasising the beauty of form, function, and the natural qualities of clay, to other explorations in clay and glaze. The wheel is my sanctuary, a place where I find connection through meditative practice. Centering the clay mirrors the process of centering myself, finding balance and understanding. My work is an extension of this personal journey, exploring the elemental and cyclic nature of our shared human experience.

"You will know when you feel the clay and allow the conversation with the material to begin—a truth emerges, and as it unravels, the patterns fall away, and a sense of self awakens."

I'm drawn to techniques like Raku, a Japanese firing method that embraces the unpredictable and celebrates the beauty of chance. This alchemical process results in unique surface finishes that reflect the organic nature of my work.

As a practicing ceramic artist, I believe that everyone has the potential to connect with their creativity through clay, and I'm honored to guide students on their own ceramic journeys (prepare for some laughs and maybe a few clay mishaps – it's all part of the fun!). I offer a variety of learning experiences, from individual workshops focusing on specific techniques like wheel throwing and letting go, to my signature program, the Ceramic Journey Series. This program provides a deeper dive into the world of ceramics, exploring not only technical skills but also the integrity of the ceramic processes. We'll delve into the mindful use of materials, the importance of intention in design, and the connection between the artist and their work. In my small, intimate St Kilda studio (just three students per class!), I offer a supportive and safe environment for all levels, from beginners to advanced. My teaching focuses on building skills, fostering mindfulness, and encouraging personal expression. The tactile nature of clay and the meditative process of creating offer a unique opportunity for relaxation and self-discovery. Visit my website to learn more and register for classes!
